The new dimension 4700 take the place of Dimension 4600 which was the no 1 selling product of PC World.

DELL, by integrating intel's new 915G chipset ,takes advantage of new featuresas 5.1 channel sound , dual-display support ,HDTV and wide-screen.

When we tested its graphics in our lab its built-in Graphics Media accelerator 900 graphics controller uses a chunk of main memory. Its image quality and frame rate are excellent although a little bit lower than similar systems that use a dedicated card. But to enhance graphics capabliites you can also install an external card to the new PCI express slot . ATI Radeon X300 SE is available for use if you pay and additional amount of $51 .

For modems and network cards there are X1 PCI Express slot and two PCI slots. But the small number of PCI Express slots get it difficult to expand the PC. In our test we have a single 160GB hard drive(SATA) but if you want to add another there is another connector on the motherboard to accomodate.

There are a lot of USB 2.0 port (total 8) two are on the front panel and remaining six are at the back. But one pitfall of the system is that it has no FireWire ports, but if you still want to use a FireWire port you have to add an adapter or the second option you can use is to upgrade the system with a sound card which have a FireWire ports on it.
